Christmas Prep

After sitting on the floor for approximately FOREVER yesterday while wrapping gifts, my panic over Christmas prep has been dialed back exactly ONE notch.

Also, this may be the last year spent on the floor wrapping; my poor back may never recover.

As of today, I'm done with my mother-in-law's gifts and almost ready to mail; I just need to find the perfect size box for mailing - the only ones I have on hand are either too small or too large (a true Goldilocks conundrum).  I feel pretty good about the kid's gifts (just couple more to procure) and stocking stuffers.  Absolutely at DEFCON ONE stage of panic about The Husband's (and, of course, he's not giving me any ideas) and two of the kids two doors down.  I realize parent's don't need the added hassle at this time of year of being asked for gift ideas; but I have no choice but to ask AGAIN.

Most of the cookie dough has been prepared and frozen, ready for baking - leaving only the Spritz Cookies, the peanut butter fudge and the almond bark - none of which can be prepared ahead of time, to my knowledge.

The tree is up, the porch lights are up.  Garland and stockings on the mantle. Battery operated candles in the front windows.  And that's it for Christmas decorations.

In the past few years, I have scaled WAY back on the decorations simply because putting them up and taking them down was exhausting.  Not to mention feeling far too cluttered.  I think I have hit on just the right amount of holiday decorating for us.

And after much waffling, and list culling, I've pulled the trigger and ordered cards which I will pick up tomorrow.

We are in full on holiday mode/panic around here.  How about you?

  1. Well done you!! I have done nothing so far as a rotten cold has side lined me and the anxiety is bubbling up! Also I am hosting a big family gathering on Boxing Day. I would like to cut back on decorating this year. We shall see if anyone whines about not putting up the Christmas village! - Jenn

  2. Oh wow, you have a lot done! Canada Post is still on strike so I don't know when I'll be able to mail my cards. People may be getting holiday spirit from me next summer at this rate.
I did some wrapping yesterday, it's my least favourite thing. I have to figure out how to get my parents' parcel to them, I guess I'll fedex it or something.
I haven't made many cookies yet but that will be soon!

  3. Great to hear you are on top of things. I don't do any of it, but I enjoy my virtual friends' efforts very much. That includes you, dear friend.

  4. Wow. This all sounds impressive.
I'm in the same place as Nicole - without a national postal service, Christmas is going to look...different. I even had my cards ordered early. I could have sent them early enough to miss the strike, but I didn't know it was coming and now...well...no Christmas cards :(
I don't actually bake that much for Christmas, but I did make PB balls this week. I do it once a year - at Christmas - and they're delicious. I'm glad those are behind me and in the freezer. They taste great, but I kinda hate making them.

  5. If you are already wrapping, it seems you are in good shape. I vote to wrap on a counter top next year. My back hurts in sympathy for you. I took Curly and Mini shopping over the weekend. They picked stuff they liked and I told them that would be their Christmas gifts. I have a few ideas for a few surprises for them. Tank asked for a wooden flute from Ireland and my brother has sourced that for me. It's a pricey gift and will count for his bday tomorrow, Christmas, and graduation, but I'm happy to be done shopping for him. Maybe some fun socks so he has something to open. I'm hoping this weekend is very productive. Fingers crossed.
