Y'all. I just looked at the calendar and panicked. Not over gifts (well, except for the two that still haven't arrived) or the stocking stuffers. That, shockingly enough is well in hand this year. Although, as a side rant, Etsy Seller - do NOT create a shipping label on the 16th and not ship the damn package! As of today, the item still has NOT shipped. At this point, I'm not expecting this item to show up on time.
No, I am in a panic over the baking and candy making. I just pulled all the frozen cookie dough out to thaw and figure I will be non-stop baking and candy making between now and Tuesday. In addition, to cleaning like a crazy woman before Tuesday.
Why am I in a panic over getting all this done prior to Tuesday, you ask?
We can blame The Husband. He decided, on a whim, that we should have a few of the neighbors over for drinks and appetizers on Tuesday and just informed me of this yesterday after already mentioning it to said neighbors first - but apparently, it didn't sink in for me that we were staring down the end of the week until today.
So, in addition to all the baking, candy making, cleaning, and deciding on Christmas Eve dinner dessert, I now probably need to come up with an appetizer all by Tuesday.
Which is (counts on fingers) five days from now.
I could be mad at him but really, it's my own fault. I've been living in my head for the past few months and hadn't realized that Christmas - and all the attendant "events" - was right around the corner.
And here we are. *sigh*
What's causing you angst or panic right about now?
I’m not panicking now as we have two Christmas parties on the first two weekends of the month. So everything is done early. I made a really easy & yummy app that was a big hit. Take a large or small wheel of Brie, top with brown sugar and some chopped pecans. Sprinkle a bit of whiskey over the top then bake at 350 until heated (about 10 min). Serve with ginger snaps. It is so quick but kind of fancy.
ReplyDeleteOoooh, yummy! Thanks for sharing!
DeleteYIKES!!! I would also be stressed at the thought of hosting something on the 23rd!
ReplyDeleteRight?! *Deep breath* we will get through this.
DeleteI am right there with you, Gigi. Maybe they should make it so Christmas is the same day every year and then we wouldn't be so surprised and rushed and...wait.... Sigh.
ReplyDeleteThanks to you, I have a super easy peanut butter fudge recipe that I can make in addition to my Holiday Toffee, another easy recipe. Pat's recipe sounds great, and I bet you could sub in almost any kind of booze--brandy, bourbon, even a tawny port might be nice.
I'm so happy that you've found the peanut butter fudge helpful to add in to your rotation. Now, this holiday toffee....care to share a recipe? I was hoping to find the time to add it to my rotation this year.
DeleteHi, Gigi. I use the recipe found on this website. It's so easy. I use mini pretzels, butter snap pretzels, and even more addictive, ruffled potato chips (!) as a bottom layer for at least one batch. I've also subbed in oyster crackers for saltines to have more toffee and less cracker.
DeleteThanks, Nance!!
DeleteOh, how I wish for the breezy laissez faire event planning style of a husband! I would be stressed, too.
ReplyDeleteHe's easy, breezy, laissez faire because he isn't thinking of all the things that need to be done beforehand. Some days we would love to brain him because of his laissez faire attitude -- then we remember, we love him. Lucky for him.
DeleteI came by to wish you ❄️Merry Christmas 🎄🎅🏻⛄️ 😘
ReplyDeleteAww, thank you, Spo!! Merry Christmas to you and yours.
