Latest loves

I don't know about you but I do love a good post about someone's favorite (insert product here) or why that product didn't appeal to them; along with all the comments that results in possibly finding another product to love.

And I'm not talking about sponsored "product."  No, I want ALL the deets from someone who has no reason to lie; not that all sponsored posts are based on lie, but a normal, everyday person who doesn't have an agenda, either way.

Anyway...recently, a few new products have found their way into my home that I thought I'd share along with my thoughts about each.

The Girlfriend curated a sweet basket of luxuries for me at Christmas that I've been savoring these past few months.  I recently pulled this scrub out and I am in love!

I AM a sucker for a good scrub - sugar or salt.  But, I'm VERY particular about scented products and generally veer away from most which I find to be over-powering, cloying, sickly sweet or medicinal - I KNOW, I'm a trial to live with...

A coconut scent - when done right - is generally pleasing to me.  This one is perfect.  Not only that, the scrub works really well.  And this really amps up the "spa vibe" in the shower.  Once this jar is done, I will definitely buy another one; maybe in a different scent (the pineapple one sounds blissful)?  Based on a quick internet search, it appears to be available at all the usual places (Target, etc.).

Also, in the past few months I have taken to deep conditioning my hair once a week.  This product is one that I can find consistently at my local CVS and I love it.

The smell is divine and, I think, it is really helping my hair live its best life.  Between this and the sugar scrub, the shower definitely has that "spa" vibe going on.  Have I tried any other deep conditioners?  No.  But, knowing me, I will eventually - but for now, this is my go to.  Are any of you deep conditioning your hair?  What's your current favorite?

The last love affair with a product that I am having is pretty specific.

I love CeraVe products in general.  But this one really seems to get the jump on new outbreaks.  I'm not so sure how well it would work in the event of a major outbreak - but it seems to work very well for small areas.  And is unscented.  The only negative I've found is that many stores claim to have it on the shelves...but they don't.  My local CVS website consistently tells me it is in stock - but it never is.  So, my only option seems to be Amazon.

My latest and most prized love?  Drum roll please....

Of ALL the orchids in residence (six currently), this ONE has actually bloomed again!  I KNOW!  I'm ridiculously happy about it.  In all the years that these plants have been in my home only ONE attempted to re-bloom prior to this...only to, literally, wither on the vine before blooming and then?  To add insult to injury succumbed to an ant invasion and had to be put out of its misery.  I am seriously contemplating moving this particular lovely to my office where I can enjoy her - but am afraid of messing up whatever "magic" is making her bloom.

Now to figure out how to make the others bloom again...the angst of an orchid owner.

So what about you?  Any new products you love or hate?  Other than Suz (who has the "orchid touch"), have any of you successfully had your orchids re-bloom and were as over the moon as I am about it?  Dish in the comments.

  1. I liked this post! I'm up here in Canada, so unsure if we have those products. I also have a very hard time with scent, although, like you, I can usually tolerate coconut. Something I've tried and like for my aging face is L'Oreal Revitalift triple power LZR (don't even know what those letters stand for). It's a facial cleanser and it's fragrance free. It has glycolic acid in it and my face feels very smooth afterward. -Jenn

    1. Hi Jenn! Welcome! I'll have to look into that face cleanser.

  2. I used to use sugar scrubs like crazy. My favourite place to get them went out of business, so I stopped. Perhaps I'll try again with the one you recommended.

I'm currently using Olay's Regenerist (red jar) and Retinol24 Night Creme (purple jar) and am very happy with both. During the winter especially, my face and neck were so dry. These helped dramatically and my skin shows it.

    1. Hi Nance - I have heard good things about those two products. Am currently on a CeraVe routine - but will definitely look into these.

  3. Ooooh I love coconut anything and everything! I love coconut scent (and also eating coconut things!). I also love a good sugar scrub, I wonder if that's available in Canada?

    1. Coconut always makes me think of summer - which is particularly nice when it's not quite summer yet. Based on a quick search, I don't think it is available in Canada - unless you buy through Amazon.

  4. It’s the little things that give us joy each day isn’t it? I discovered a facial oil early on in The lockdown. I was excited about my face care regimen each night because I loved the oil so much. I also received a hibiscus tree last year for mother’s day and it has bloomed and bloomed! Right now there are 4 gorgeous big flowers.

    1. It is! I've heard about facial oils but have been skeptical...why do you love it? Hibiscus' are gorgeous! They don't do well here but Rose of Sharon is similar and I may need to source one for my yard. Enjoy those fabulous blooms.

  5. Orchids and I are not friends. It pains me to say that, but it's true. I love a good scrub that makes me feel like I'm the most pampered woman in the world. Thanks for the recommendation.

    1. I felt the same, Ally. After years and years, I was kind of resenting caring for these plants so well if they weren't going to bother to re-bloom and this little rebel finally did - so we shall see if the others follow suite.

  6. I'm so impressed that you got your orchid to bloom again!!!! That really is exciting! Perhaps you need to try raising butterflies since you seem to have Suz's magic touch!

  7. Beth, I'm FLOORED that it re-bloomed. I think I'll leave the butterflies to Suz, she is the true butterfly whisperer.

  8. What a timely post; I was working on a 'current favorite things' post just yesterday! Great minds.
I'm SO into coconut and that scrub sounds divine! I'll be on the lookout for it.
My hair is so thin, I hardly use any conditioner at all, so I can't attest to any deep conditioners.
I also LOVE CeraVe products; they're the bomb. I use the light face moisturizer with SPF daily.

What a lovely orchid!! So, did you leave it inside and it re-bloomed INSIDE your house? If so, you have some good mojo going on in there; they like warmth, not direct sun and humidity. Bravo to you!!

    1. I took them out to the back porch last summer with no results. So far, this year, they are inside. Now, I've given the other ones a talking to, so we shall see what happens. At any rate, this little bloom is giving me so much joy...after YEARS of waiting.

  9. I don't use anything like these products, and I would never try to grow orchids, but I'm so happy yours has re-bloomed. Cool!

    1. I did not choose the orchid life; the orchid life chose me. These were all lovely gifts from friends and I adore them...I just wish they would bloom regularly. So yes, over the moon that this one did AND has two other blooms ready to pop!

  10. I have had an orchid since 2018, I think? It has rebloomed twice... due to nothing I can pinpoint. I am pretty sure it needs a bigger container, but I'm nervous about transplanting it! Each time it reblooms I am VERY excited, so I completely understand your joy!

    1. I don't know that it necessarily needs a bigger container...since these plants aren't quite like other plants. I have re-potted a couple and they don't seem any happier or sadder than the ones I haven't re-potted. There MUST be a trick/hack/something to get them to re-bloom.

  11. I too love a good Review that is not biased with being monetized to rate it. I've been Rating new Restaurants we've tried and my Friends appreciate it since now they've been able to know which places they'd also enjoy. When the place is Family Owned they appreciate the Free Publicity. I Love Orchids but could only grow them when I had a Spa Bathroom at a previous residence, here they could not thrive at Forever Boheme' so I have some faux ones that my Adult Grandkids tease me about becoz I think they look real enough and they think they look embarrassingly fake. When they rebloom it is an accomplishment, Bravo!

  12. I love the curology line. Sadly their moisturizer is unavailable to just buy separately. So I steal it from Oldest. :)

I won't go near orchids. I will definitely kill them. But I do have a whole bunch of amaryllises bulbs that are like a small jungle right now. Splitting and making baby plants... We'll see if they bloom again in the summer. Still too early to put them outside just yet. I ahve a white, pink and red one. It would be so nice if I could get them to bloom all at once.

  13. Here in the desert of Arizona even the men use lotion; keeping up on recommendations is always appreciated.

  14. I love coco and shea. I should check this out. That flower is so lovely. I saw a meme that says something about a plant of flower left in the wild grows abundantly but houseplants die fast.
