Sunday Evening Tidbits (otherwise known as the "We Shall See" edition)

Nothing of note to report from the home front, so I figured I'd just see where this goes...

Urspo, the dear, offered to do tarot readings on Halloween for any that wanted one.  I took him up on his offer in the spirit of spooky season and received my reading today which was as follows:

"Here is your tarot card reading, done on All Hallow’s Eve. I used a three-card spread. This is somewhat ‘past present future’ oriented, however it is also a collection of three concepts to read as one - like The Fates. I will read them one at a time and then a summary.

Mind! These are not predictive so much as descriptive. If they seem to warn, then this means to be mindful to make it different.

1- Ace of Wands
2- Queen of Cups
3- 8 of wands

Wands are about work/activity.  Aces are about beginnings and 8's are about busyness.
In between is the queen of cups, an emotional feeling woman, at ease/enthroned - a good thing.
as she is between two busy cards, one 'starting' and one 'doing', the cards suggest your feeling should be followed in the next 12 months, as you have the intuition to start and do things, especially at 'work' whatever that may be."

Considering all that is going on at work of late, it seems I will need to be on my toes and follow my intuition for the next twelve months (what else is new?).  As he points out, this is more descriptive rather than predictive; but based on recent events it seems a little predictive as well.  We shall see.

Today, Suzanne described her ideal weekend afternoon as she continues on her quest to meet the NaBloPoMo challenge (go cheer her on; she's off to a great start!).  And while, her ideal weekend afternoon sounds right up my alley (minus the football) it is not mine, at least not these days.  Generally, these days, my reading is done before bed - as that's the only quiet time in this house when The Husband is here (by the way, Suzanne, I will probably, most definitely do a review on what I'm currently reading that I really think you might like).  Wherever he is, as I've noted before, there is bound to be some kind of noise.

But, I did have an ideal weekend afternoon today.  After the infernal laundry was done, the bathrooms cleaned and the kitchen attended to I retreated to my office where I turned on the Dateline podcast (which I recently discovered and am now OBSESSED) and spent the afternoon listening to several episodes while working on a cross stitch project that I hope will become a Christmas stocking...but the further I get on this project the more I think this project, although quite pretty, will not be a viable, usable stocking.  We shall see.

In other news, we are meeting The Girlfriend's family this coming weekend!  It appears things are getting pretty serious.  Technically, we were supposed to first meet them at Thanksgiving.  But in nod to my hyperventilating at the thought of spending the holiday meeting new people, we settled on having them over to celebrate The Husband's birthday (we are Partying with a Purpose - everyone brings non-perishable food that we will donate to a local food bank) so our first meeting will be in our home with other people to act as a buffer (yes, I'm weird.  I know).  The thought is that this will relieve my anxiety.  I'm sure they are as lovely as their daughter and that it will all be delightful.  (Send me your prayers, good vibes, etc. I know I will be a bundle of nerves until this initial meeting is over).  We shall see.

Speaking of having people over, that means my mind turns to getting the house in order.  Oh, it's "generally" in order most of the time.  But having people over, particularly "new" people over, sends my mind into overdrive.  Thanks, Elisabeth, for the perfect analogy - I have too many windows open in my brain.  I need to sit and focus on what really needs to be done and what can fall into the "if I have time to get to it, that would be nice list."  Otherwise, I will make myself crazy (and, if the truth be told, probably still will).  We shall see.

  2. I don't know much about Tarot other than it is interesting. It seems like your reading is spot on. I wish you well meeting the girlfriend's parents. That's a big deal, good idea for the theme of the party. I liked Elisabeth's analogy, too. I've been musing on it over the weekend, trying to get more focused.

    1. I don't know much about Tarot either; but it sounded like a bit of fun. Elisabeth's analogy has been on my mind ever since I read about it...there another opened tab! ;-)

  3. Because you are meeting the girlfriend's family, it makes sense that you got "beginnings" in your tarot reading. That's exciting, but as an introvert, I understand wanting to meet before Thanksgiving. I also understand having a lot of tabs open. I always have to tell myself to take things one day at a time. ❤️

    1. Oh Kari, that's insightful! Yes, meeting the family is a "beginning." I didn't make that connection until you pointed it out! Yes, I think meeting prior to Thanksgiving will be key in to having me not be in an anxious state during Thanksgiving.

  4. Wow! Big news indeed about The Girlfriend (I love how you write it like this, capitalized).
I'm glad my analogy resonated; I think, for women at least, it is the norm to both have a lot on the go AND to ruminate over those things. Even what you listed as happening on part of your perfect day - making a craft for Christmas + listening to podcasts + cleaning bathrooms/the kitchen + laundry. Even if none of those things are "hard", that's a big range of activities to manage. And I'm sure you were thinking, before the weekend, how you needed to clean the bathrooms and do the laundry because those jobs never end (so how can we ever permanently shut them down in our mind) and, in my experience at least, tend to fall to one partner (typically the woman). I'm not complaining about the roles I have assumed at home (and my husband, to his credit, actually does quite a bit around the house - but can need reminders...which means I CAN'T full shut even the items I delegate down on my mental home page) - but there are a lot of them!

    1. Your analogy, Elisabeth, really resonated with me. Today, although I was unable to shut down the tabs in my brain, I was more mindful of the tabs/windows open on my computer. It really is the perfect analogy for women and their multi-tasking brains.

  5. Oh, meeting the girlfriend's parents does sound serious. How exciting. I think you are playing this prefectly, meeting in advance at a gathering with other people. It seems you've created a low pressure setting. Love the food for those in needy party theme. I have no idea about card readings, but I defer to your thoughts and hope that keeping on your toes at work is all you need to manage that area. Good luck.

    1. I really know nothing about Tarot readings either except that it is a bit of fun. Yes, I think meeting like this will keep it low key for us and them. And, my VERY extraverted friend will be here to fill in the gaps when I am overwhelmed.

  6. I think the first time we met one of The Girlfriends' family was at a softball game. Perfect, low-anxiety venue. Another time (different son) was at a larger gathering someplace else, so that was also low-anxiety. I like the idea of there being a social occasion already in place so that the focus isn't on Meeting Each Other.

Good for you, incorporating a food drive into your husband's birthday party. I hope that catches on.

    1. Nance, you nailed it with "...so that the focus isn't on Meeting Each Other."

Generally, whenever we have a "party" of any sort, we generally do a food drive. I read about the idea once years ago and it has been our go to theme ever since. And that is why I like to mention it here; so that other people can pick up on the idea and go forth.

  7. The Tarot reading looks like fun! Meeting the possible new inlaws. Sounds like fun; I'm sure they will be lovely and you won't be nearly as stressed as you think. (crossing my fingers)
I've not done cross stitch in years, but I do miss doing it as it was very therapeutic for me.

    1. I'm sure they are extremely lovely. The introvert in me is also sure that I will be as stressed as I think. But we will get over that bridge.

I used to cross stitch years ago and picked it back up during lockdown. Yoga for the mind. And, I found, it can kill a lot of lockdown hours.

  8. Oh, sitting doing a cross stitch listening to a favourite podcast sounds so lovely (if I cross stitched or listened to podcasts - I keep trying, but I am good at reading, bad at listening). Best of luck with the meeting - I would also be nervous, even though the overwhelming likelihood is that it will be wonderful. And my house is not even generally in order, although my fall project has been to put it that way.
Also, in case you didn't see my reply to your comment on Suz's post, here is the oven mitt:https://www.blueq.com/shop/item/330-productId.125848422.html :)

  9. I do hope the new family meeting will be stress free. And always a good idea to have an extrovert around. Handy for any awkward gaps in the conversation. I look forward to hearing how it all goes. And happy birthday to Hubby!

  10. Hi Gigi!!! Your perfect afternoon really sounds so idyllic. Will you post pictures of your cross stitch when you're finished? And now I am very eager to read about the book you are enjoying! Thanks for the shoutout and the cheers. :-)

    1. Hi Suzanne! Yes, I will post a picture when I finish (although at the rate I'm going it won't be done until after Christmas) and I am also going to post a picture of another finished project (probably after Christmas...or maybe just before as it is a gift). I'm working on the review now; so hopefully soon.
