I admit it, I'm usually a sucker for a puzzle. But this particular puzzle? I've despised from day one.
Let's back up. I started this puzzle last year, prior to Christmas. I never did finish, because Christmas snuck up on me and I had to dismantle the puzzle (I've got to invest in one of those mats that allow you to roll up with unfinished puzzle and put it away) in large sections (to keep from starting from scratch) so that the guest room bed would be accessible to the Newlyweds when they stayed over Christmas Eve.
Earlier this week, I finally pulled the puzzle back out and once again set out to finish the puzzle as I need something to pass the time (and, apparently, house keeping isn't it) now that I'm unemployed. And guess what? This time around, I hated this puzzle even more.
After much thought was given (while poring over the damn thing) I came to the conclusion that this puzzle didn't have discernable facial features (other than eyes) and the there was barely a discernable difference between the color variations.
In sum, it was frustrating.
So, I am happy to report that I finally finished the stupid puzzle....
Only to be faced with this...
A leftover piece that doesn't belong (or is a duplicate). Infuriating.
I guess I now need to find a new, less infuriating puzzle to do. Or embrace house keeping (which, quite frankly, needs to be done but still isn't ranking high on my list of quality "Passing the Time" list.).
We did a New Yorker puzzle, a different one, and the same thing happened. Infuriating, but also so freaking weird.
ReplyDeleteI won't say this is the hardest puzzle I've ever done; but it's the only one I've ever actively disliked.
DeletePuzzles seem inherently stressful to me. I avoid anything more than 300 pieces, but really...anything over 100 pieces is likely to frustrate me. Life's too short to do crappy puzzles, so take this as my permission to pass along any puzzle you hate in the future.
ReplyDeleteI can see how puzzles can seem stressful to some people. The problem with me is that I am stubborn and I was going to see it through to the end. But now I know to avoid New Yorker puzzles!
DeleteI don't do these kinds of puzzles because they also stress me out. And now I wonder if there is someone missing that piece!
ReplyDeleteMost likely there is; and they are probably cussing up a storm! Because I know I do if I end up at the end of the end of a puzzle and a piece is missing.
DeleteAN EXTRA PIECE?!?!?! Omg!!!! But congrats on finishing -- that puzzle looks extremely challenging. So much of the same color and the pieces seem very small! I am not a puzzler. They drive me nuts. But my husband loves puzzles. However, he started a puzzle shortly after we moved into this house... and it is still on the puzzle table, 75% finished.
ReplyDeleteIf his puzzle is only 75% finished - most likely he's bored with it (or too busy to work on it)
DeleteNicely done! You're a puzzling super star with real patience to stick with it.
ReplyDeletePatience is something I'm short on; but stubbornness? I've got that in spades.
DeleteARGHHHHH that looks like a terrible puzzle, plus an extra piece??? WHAT??? I admit I like easy puzzles with lots of little vignettes to work on. My son gave me one of QEII's coronation last year for Christmas and holy crap, it was difficult. So many shades of purple and grey.
ReplyDeleteI remember you doing that puzzle! And knowing that was one that I would never attempt!
DeleteI never was one for puzzles. They seem like work to me rather than fun. That extra piece is unforgivable. Is it there just to make it harder on you? Is it a packaging mistake? Is someone else missing that piece?
ReplyDeleteJust give me the crossword or Wordle--those are my kind of puzzles.
I adore word games and do those all the time. But a jigsaw puzzle satisfies me in a weird way and is a good way to kill time when you've got a lot of that on your hands.
DeleteI'm not much for puzzles - but what on earth with the extra piece? Is that normal? I'm glad you finished it and you can move on. Housekeeping - not my strong suit either.
ReplyDeleteNo an extra piece is not normal. This is the first time it's ever happened to me. Generally, I'm usually missing a piece or two - which is equally as frustrating as the extra piece weirdly enough.
DeleteThat does look like a horrible puzzle to complete. I've often had a piece missing, but never an extra. I think you should win a prize!
ReplyDeleteI used to make a lot of puzzles; would that I did some more again! I relate sometimes a puzzle is just no fun. Like at bad book, I will put it down if it isn't entertaining.
