Best of Friends

Remember way back when I kinda fooled you into thinking I was reading the classics?  And then showed you what I was really in the pile of books I was about to read?

Well, I finally read it. All 615 pages.  I dithered over whether or not to add it to the Books I Love Enough To Tell You About tab.  It is a very good read.  But, was it one of those books where I grab whoever is closest and yell "You MUST read this book RIGHT NOW!" kind of books?

In a fashion, yes it is.  This isn't a grab you by the seat of your pants kind of book.  But it is an introspective look at women, and their friendships.

One of the blurbs compares her to Maeve Binchy - which I totally get.  It's chick-lit at it's finest.

The noticeable difference with this book is that it will have you reaching for the tissues far sooner than you'd think.  And far more often.

This book is set in Ireland and centers around four women and their respective lives and how they intersect.  This book serves as a reminder that no matter what is going on in our lives - we should remember that we have our friends to rely on as we struggle through our own issues and dilemmas; that they are as there for us as we are for them.  It also reminds us, that no matter how hard we fight - sadly, some battles are just not meant to be won.

So although it is a long read - it is a good read.  And one I can honestly say I'd recommend that you carry along with you when you are headed to the beach.  Along with a box of tissues.

Sorry.  I am trying hard not to let this become a "book" blog as I realize that not all of you share my passion for reading, or have the time for it.  But I read A LOT and so it stands to reason that you will hear about some of the ones I really enjoyed....but I'll try to keep it to the ones that I really, really, really enjoyed.  Sound fair?

  1. Before you even said it, I was thinking this one sounds like it's perfect for the beach tote. I like that it's long, too, something you can really settle in with.

  2. Yes, it's fair that you share the books you love. I do the same on my blog, and it never occurred to me to think of this being a "book blog." I'll check this one out.

  4. I'll take your word for it. I can't even finish a 150 page book. Sounds good, though. Actually, it sounds sad to me because I am really the "glue" person in so many female relationships, and I feel like when I really need someone, I don't know if those women are really there for me or not because they never keep in touch with me. I keep in touch with them, but I can only do that so many times before I feel like I'm bothering them.... well, you've read my blog, you know that.

  6. I can barely manage to read and stay loyal to the blogs I follow. I'd never make it through a book.

  9. When I had jaw surgery a few years ago, a friend gave me a bunch of romance novels to read. I never read romance novels. But I liked having an "easy read" while I was recovering and not feeling well. I could finish a book in a couple of hours.

  10. Honey, it's great to hear about the books you truly enjoy. There's SO MANY out there, it can be overwhelming. Always helpful to hear about the decent reads.

  12. Gigi, I know I'm having computer issues, but are the comments open on your other posts? I don't see it! I wanted to comment on the post titled, It's The Little Things. Girrrrl, THANK YOU for letting me know I'm not alone. I won't even bore you with MY list and you're right, these little things shouldn't bother us, but they do. I've realized it's not about the particular issue, but how I react to it, which is why I go through the same things over and over again. I need to graduate from my level of irritation to a level of WHATEVER!
